5 Of The Best WordPress Backup Plugins

Just recently I had to move one of my niche websites to another host and I had to research some of the best WordPress backup plugins to do the job.

It all went smooth and the process was quite simple, as I had a copy of my website including my database

All I had to do is copy the files, the database and change the DNS.

But what if I didn’t have a backup?

Can you imagine? Not having a backup of your website?

What if something goes wrong? Or maybe you want to move to another host?

There are many reasons why people backup their websites but I won’t go into that.

The point is that it’s a good idea to make backups of our blog on a regular basis, who knows, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Here are 5 of the best WordPress backup plugins that I found to be worthy of this list.

After my research, I found these plugins to be very effective, powerful and easy to use.

best backup plugins

1.) Simple Backup

This plugin was one of the very first backup WordPress plugins I tried and liked.

It’s called “simple backup” for a reason, because it’s very easy to set up and to create a copy of your website and that’s why its on this list of the best WordPress backup plugins.

What I like the most about this plugin is the option to optimize the database before you make a back-up.

What I like:

  • Easy to use
  • Great For beginners
  • Files back-up
  • Database back-up
  • Option to optimize the database
  • Option to optimize WP

  • no schedule

2.) BackWPup Free – WordPress Backup Plugin

BackUpWordPress plugin

BackUpWordPress is by far the simplest plugin to back-up your WordPress installation.

You don’t have many options but the ones that you have do the job perfectly.

  • option to schedule back-ups for the database/files or both
  • email notification

Premium features:

5.) Duplicator

duplicator plugin

Last but not least on my list of the best WordPress backup plugins is the Duplicator plugin. At first I found this one to be a little complicated but after a few minutes of poking around everything was looking way too easy.

The plugin scans your website and then presents you with the files it finds and the database which is quite neat.

It will also show you any warnings it finds during the scan such as large files or total size of the back-up.

To make a full back-up you must follow three simple steps,Setup->Scan->Build. Here is a great tutorial which explains in detail how to use the Duplicator plugin to make a backup.

What I like:

  • The diagnostics feature is quite nice
  • Database back-up
  • Files back-up
  • The scan feature is quite interesting

What I don’t like:

  • no 1 click database back-up
  • no option to back-up to Google Drive, Amazon S3, Dropbox or other services
  • no option to schedule back-ups

What about you?

For my needs I like to use BackWPup as it’s quite powerful, but any of these 5 best WordPress backup plugins can do the job perfectly.
